Sure we all know it's great, ongoing free energy leading to lower bills and a clearer conscious concerning the ever looming "carbon footprint". All of that aside... Why haven't you made the switch? Is it the perceived hassle, the imagined cost, or very simply that buying into it all requires you to follow The Grateful Dead for a month? Truth is that many of the devices we use everyday can be easily charged with solar. How many times have you been stranded with a dead phone and no outlet to plug into... Imagine just whipping out your compact solar charger and being back in business. Many portable chargers also store energy, so you're even good at night. As for cost, once you make the initial purchase, you're done. Free and clear. Solar also requires very little maintenance and isn't subject to power grid brownouts. Somewhere there is a touch of irony, but if all the lights go out in the neighborhood at night, you still have power from your solar cells. As for the granola mystique it carries, trust me, the hippies are definitely having the last laugh with this one. So what's personally holding you back? The Happiest of New Years and all comments are welcome. Best all in one... 10/27/2009
