Survival Basics

Picture
The basics for survival are: Fire, Shelter, Water, Food. In that order. Any lack of these basics can lead to illness, dehydration, malnourishment or death from exposure. This may sound harsh, but when you are trying to start a fire in winter on a windy night with no moon... everything will become apparent.

Here's where you will be retrained to find for yourself. Modern conveniences make us forget how hard these needs are to fulfill when not readily available at the corner store.

Because of our culture's relative abundance, it is easy to assume that everything will work out just fine when in the wilderness. Simply because we infrequently find ourselves in a life or death situation, does not mean it is not possible to be taken by the elements.

In the wild you do not have a buffer zone. As you move, you sweat and burn calories. This food and water must be refreshed or problems will begin to occur. At night, without proper shelter, it will be cold. Laying on the ground even in summer will lower your core temperature faster than you think. Exposure is a real concern.

But their is an upside to this type of situation. No phone, no boss, no bills... none of the normal concerns our society generates. So as long as you are ready to take care of yourself, be assured that the bush has it's pleasurable moments too.
