The Survival Initiative

The purpose of the Initiate is to teach the people of today the skills of the past. It may seem like a huge step backwards to learn the skills necessary to create a sustainable environment capable of living off the land. But we as a society have only recently achieved the point that we have less need for these rapidly evaporating skills. We are at an interesting point in our civilization, where we have forgotten the technologies of the past that got us to the present. Our knowledge base may reach highly advanced levels, but it is only good within the parameters of our society. Take away the buildings, and we are cast into a world for which we are no longer prepared.

We think of our world as a constant. We wake each day to a bevy of food and fall asleep each night after only first switching off our electric lights. Things may change in the news, but we still have the basic tenets of societal comfort that we rely upon. Think for a moment what would happen if one day you woke up and there was no food. Water was no longer safe to drink and all the basic social services that we depend on, rather, are sustained by, were gone. It may seem far fetched, but it happened as recently as 2005 in Louisiana.

We have done such a good job of distancing ourselves from nature that we have become a different animal. One that feeds on preservatives and chemically infused water. One that can go months without ever even stepping off of pavement. The worry that was once reserved for animal attacks and food shortages, is now channeled into bills and consumerism. We have purposely disconnected from our more primal backgrounds, in order to live within a bubble of certainty. It may seem like progress, but what have we traded for our ease?

We see the answer every time our worldview is shaken. From natural to man made, every time our habit is broken we descend into a state of temporary chaos usually only ended after assurances from a government agency.

It is putting a lot of faith in someone else to go through life without the basic survival skills needed to keep yourself alive.

It is time we re-educate ourselves. Let us join together and learn how to live without assistance. Because you never know...
